Asking for opinions here. How much time would you take to heal after a break up before getting involved with someone new. I have heard recommendations of 1 year for every 4 years of marriage. What about long term relationships that did not involve marriage or living together? What have been your experiences with waiting versus diving back into relationship life? Please share. heart wings

hi punchingodo it can be very complicated as for my self i was merryd for 10 yers only to finde out i was liyd to and used for rasing and caring for her kids and theas are her words to me prity well the yungist lives with me he is 11 now but was 5 when she left im old fashind i beleave in merige for life and you work on it together

ive had to think of my sun and invalving a nother woman i did the rebound thing it was not good i didint like herting the other woman i regret that i have bean singl for 5 yers i have not dated or gone out with no one i was devestated by my ex wife and have gon for counseling it has helpt

i think its up to the indevigewell how long or short of time it takes to start date againe some peple it dosent seame to efekt at all others like my self hoo nows when ther redy yes its lonly but atleast im geting stronger menly emoshinly againe my sun and i deskus this dating thing and he is ok with me dating and is redy to sher a frend ship with a new frend for me a girl frend but i dont want to ceary exsess bageg in to a new realashon ship so im still working on things

jumping in to a relashon ship ask your self are you redy for it or not mently emoshenly exsedra

not jumping in to it take the time to heal your hart and minde so that you dont end up herting some one or your self and a longer healing time

love is a wonderfull thing and hope as well

but hert can last a life time

i wish you the best of luck the big thing is think about it a lott and hoo it will efekt your childron first you the other person ther famly

A formula? How about if you just go with the 'when it feels right to you' thing. Really, your the only person who knows when it is time to move on and when it is not rather than staring at a calendar.

If it feels right, do it. If it doesn't, then don't.

Hey Punchingodo

I can probably answer that....only cause I too was in a 1 1/2 year relationship that pretty much ended in April.... I guess in August is when I felt it was 'right' for me......

I don't think that there IS a timeframe for "licking your wounds" (as I put it batting eyelashes )

I have to agree with Geo..... when it feels "right" then go for it.....

I think it's when we are NOT looking, that opportunity knocks on our door...sometimes it takes the freaking door off the hinges! It;s just how WE react to the invitation......

All wounds HEAL with time.......

Time IS of the essence...so I say, embrace it....

JMO

cheers

i don't think it's that difficult to read what you write. It's actually similar to a dialect, a short version of English. I appreciate that you take the time to respond to various things on the forum.wave

I find the effort he makes into "making" his grammer and spelling mistakes to be quite inventive and creative.head banger

How long? If the love was true then, sad to say you will never get over it. As for being able to function as a single person again it could be a day or years. Myself, it took me years to get over my ex even though I walked out on her and even now, in times of quiet loneliness I think back and wonder if maybe I should have stuck it out, then shake myself back to reality.

But your question was 'how much time would (I) take to heal?' It's an emotional thing but if I were a machine, I would take a year at least of being on my own however, on the other side of the spectrum, as a potential suitor, I wouldn't touch anybody who was less than a year out of a serious relationship if that helps.

Thanks Drewski, you are absolutely right about flipping the situation and considering dating someone fresh out of a serious relationship. If we wouldn't accept a rebound why would we be one!!! I have dated some since my marriage of 20+ years ended over 6 years ago and am looking for someone who is pretty much healed......
